About Gilray Plant
Established in 1970, Gilray Plant Ltd has been supplying a wide range of scaffolding products and accessories for nearly half a century.
One of the UK’s oldest wholesale scaffolding specialists, Gilray Plant is a member of the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC). The company’s aim is to couple quality products with competitive pricing and a rapid, reliable delivery service.
Vision for our family firm has been driven by Managing Director Ralph Wilson. Under his leadership, the company has grown steadily over the years with a reputation for honesty and fairness. We have developed close working relationships with not only our suppliers but also our customers. Our fast delivery service, reasonable prices, dedication to good customer service and exceptional range of high quality products have seen us stay at the top of our industry and work with some incredibly prestigious clients.
As well as being a member of the NASC, the company is ISO-accredited and holds a BSI Kitemark licence for the production of scaffold boards. Gilray scaffold boards are made in accordance with BS 2482:2009 and are all machine-stress-graded. And all our timber comes with Chain of Custody certification.
Boards can be tailored to meet your own company’s individual requirements – with customised bands, branding, nail-plating. For more information, please see the “Our Scaffold Boards” tab above.
Scaffold fittings, when bought in bulk, can be customised with your company name. Otherwise, to deter theft, we aid traceability of fittings with Gilray marks of identification. Fittings are made in accordance with EN74-1:2005 requirements. Scaffold tube supplied is made to EN 39.
A one-stop shop for all your scaffolding needs, Gilray Plant is based in Erith, Kent. The company’s vehicle fleet is used to deliver primarily to clients from Kent, the South East, London and the Home Counties, including London, Erith, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham, Maidstone, Canterbury, Gravesend, Dartford, Orpington, Bromley, Dover, Colchester, Reigate, Croydon, Berkhamsted, Luton and Stevenage.
However, we have the capability to deliver much further afield, depending on the order involved.
If you require first-class scaffolding and accessories, look no further than Gilray Plant Ltd and call us on 01322 442006 to discuss your requirements.
Ralph Wilson, Managing Director
When I took the company over from my father at the end of the 1980s, it was turning over £450,000. In the intervening decades, I have enjoyed the challenge of growing the company to what it is today. In 2005 I achieved a major ambition in buying a three-acre yard in Erith, Kent. It was great to know I would never have to deal with a landlord again! Having this space enabled me to fulfil another ambition – namely to become a British manufacturer, producing machine-stress-graded BSI Kite-marked scaffold boards. This increase in our scaffold-boards business helped us to win recognition at the 2015 Mega-Growth Awards as one of the top 50 fastest growing companies in Kent.
Sarah Wilson, Director
Before I went to university, my father told me I could do something useful(!) and packed me off to do an office admin/secretarial course. He couldn’t have been more right – the skills I learnt there have proved so useful in running a family business. From making sure our products are tested to the correct Standards to dealing with staffing issues, overseeing ISO & BSI audits, getting the new website up and running, my day is never dull. And being able to drive through our acquisition of Chain of Custody accreditation for our scaffold boards was particularly satisfying.
George Horton, Finance Manager
Having trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant, I have worked in a variety of different businesses including the motor trade, a furniture business, and even a snooker business which like scaffolding still uses feet as a unit of measurement. This variety has stood me in good stead for working at Gilray where no two days are the same. I thoroughly enjoy working here where behaving with integrity is viewed as a core value in enabling us to offer a professional, reliable and friendly service to all of our customers. While my official title is Finance Manager, I also get involved in many other areas of the business to help ensure our customers get the high level of service that they have come to expect. In my spare time I can often be found on the golf course or walking my dog although some would say my dog walks me!
Barbara Noyce, Administrator
I have worked in the Construction Industry for nearly 15 years with the last four at Gilray Plant as the Sales Administrator and I have never looked back. This family-run business is a rewarding place to work. I am a very customer-focused person and will always go the extra miles when required. I am married with three grown-up daughters who keep me busy! And I love foreign travel.
Ross Campbell, Stock Controller
I joined the Gilray team in August last year in a Stock Control/Purchase Ledger role, but being part of a small, busy team means one gets involved with all aspects of the business which keeps things interesting!
